Last night Donald Trump was elected president.

Fellow citizen, if you are reading this, and if you voted for Trump, as opposed to against Clinton in this election, please, if you have time, leave a comment about why Trump's presidency is good for the US, and what good things you expect him to achieve in the next four to eight years.

If you voted for Trump for the sole reason that you disfavored Clinton, please do not comment on this thread: this thread is intended to discuss Trump only.

UPD: I thank everyone, who took time to respond.

It's simple. Four more years US will not to be a Brazil, South Africa or even Venezuela.

I did.
As you correctly pointed out, you are not the intended audience of this anyway, because you did not vote.

Well, Trump is against almost everything I stand for. Still, I feel there may well be good things coming out of this election. Perhaps, we simply cannot see them yet, like the polls which could not detect Trump supporters earlier. We just have to calm down, wait and see.

I didn't, but I know someone who did. Blue collar, about 60, lost a leg in a work accident a few years ago. It was a union job, so he's reasonably comfortable, pension and all. For him it was that make America great thing. In rural PA, they basically hope to get their dignity back.

What I expect from Trump:
  • taxes decrease (or at least no tax increase)
  • conservative judge in the Supreme court
  • Obamacare fix or complete cancelation
  • less US participation in all wars oveseas

In no particular order

(Link)
I expect Trump to nominate a conservative Supreme Court justice to replace late Justice Scalia. Clinton's wife would nominate someone who would reverse McDonald and Heller decisions. I don't want Supreme Court to decide that "the right of the people" in The Bill of Rights means "the right of the militia".

I like Trump's stance on immigration ("legal immigration good, illegal immigration bad"). I don't like Obama's decision to selectively enforce immigration laws.

I think Trump will reduce, or at least not grow government spending.

Actually the markets expect quite the opposite: a massive expansion of fiscal spending. And it makes sense: the easiest way to create "good jobs" for Trump's electorate is by launching big government projects. This, in turn, means a higher inflation and higher interest rates.

I would have voted Johnson if I could, but if you're interested, I could offer several good things that Trump's presidency probably would produce.

If neither you nor the journal owner mind me barging into your conversation (if you do: my apologies, full stop), I would like to ask one yes/no question + one possible follow-up question.

1) Do you really believe Trump's policies will bring back the good jobs as he promised?

If yes: thank you for your answer.

2) If no, let me ask a follow-up question: what or who, in your opinion, would stop the following scenario from developing?

- good jobs do not come back, Trump's voters raise the question with Trump, the Jews(*) get blamed,

- the Jews(*) are properly dealt with, good jobs still do not come back, Trump's voters raise the question with Trump, Eastasia gets blamed,

- Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia...

Imho, the extreme likelihood of this scenario trumps every possible good thing that Trump's presidency could produce.

------

(*) Not literally the Jews of course, but whatever slice of the population gets assigned to the role:

In times of trouble and perturbation,
When all are scared and confused,
In every land, there is a nation
To play the role of local Jews.

1. No, the protectionist ideas of Trump I consider quite misguided and do not count them among the good things.

2. I consider a thinly veiled attempt to compare Trump to Hitler not conductive to sane discussion. Politicians routinely promise many things that do not come to be (the sitting president has earned Lie of the Year award from his own camp for one of such promises, and it was by far not the only one, and of course he's not an exception among presidents), there's no need to invoke the shadow of Nazis to discuss it. Trump will not miraculously fix US economy, just as none of the latest N presidents did, fortunately US economy can do pretty fine by itself if one does not mess with it too much. I expect Trump to live up to this expectation, despite the described above. As I said, I don't think it's one of a good things, just not bad enough to mess things up worse than it's usual for federal government.

I'm not sure what you mean by Eastasia, anyway.

Suggested reading for you: http://slatestarcodex.com/2016/11/16/you-are-still-crying-wolf/

In fact, if you're interested in a sane liberal point of view, you should read almost every post in that blog, but this is talking specifically what I was talking about, just more eloquently.

Thank you, friend, I will keep that in mind. Most of the neighbors on my street here are either from Ireland, or have Irish roots, so tchange shouldn't feel like a strong one:) I can even play levers harp, which may prove more useful than my ability to do American immigration law...
